The Designer

Katla Hreiðarsdóttir- creator/designer

Born and raised in Hafnafjörður, a small town just outside of Reykjavík (Iceland’s capital), Katla was born and bred into a very “artsy” family and environment.  With the Arts, music and design being a huge part of her childhood and home life, Katla was influenced and passionate from a very young age and was determined to make her mark on the world… so skipping school and cutting class to sew costume and do make-up as part of a back stage crew for local theatre productions, was not frowned upon, but rather applauded by Katla’s relaxed and very inspiring mom and dad!

Interested and drawn to everything “ art” Katla moved on from school to collage to study Arts with a major in Fashion design , got her design mojo tickled  and there was no turning back!

After collage , Katla moved to Herning, Denmark, to study Design and Visual merchandising at Teko and then on to Barcelona for 3 years, where she fell in love with and studied Interior Design-  finishing with  BA  Bachelor’s degree in design.

Having always been annoyed by the lack of clothing and designer ranges aimed at women with curves , Katla started playing around with designing items that she would like to wear… one thing led to another and she started manufacturing, being noticed and then selling her uniquely designed form flattering and comfortably sexy pieces professionally

Since her early days in Hafnarfjordur, Katla had always had a fashion design dream, wanted to make beautiful and elegant designs that could be worn by all types of women -big and small ( not just size 0 runway models!) She wanted to design clothing that would make a woman feel amazing and sexy because of and in spite of those few (barely noticable) extra kilos!

On moving back to Iceland from Spain, Katla found the lack of anything vaguely interesting in her wardrobe a huge inspiration… she just wanted to wear clothing that did the right things- that held in her tummy (not cut it in half- hate muffin tops!), that flattered her curves, that accentuated her assets… and so Volcano Design was born!

 Katla and her volcano team continue to be inspired by the female form and design clothing and accessories … and maybe… just maybe… one day she will be content with a wardrobe full of clothing that does one thing and one thing only- makes women simply look GORGEOUS!
